The Warther Carving Collection

Refusing to sell his carvings, David instead is working to develop an artistic and educational display for visitors to enjoy, appreciate, and learn from for many generations to come.

He extensively researches ships from different eras and recreates them in fine art form. Among the many ships to see at the carving exhibit are the elegant "Voyage to Punt Ships" of ancient Egypt, the stately "Cogs" of medieval Europe, and the majestic American ships from the age of sail.

Christopher Columbus' "Santa Maria", 1492   -   Voyage to Punt Ship, Egypt, 1500 B.C.

David works to bring out the beauty of each ship with delicate hand etching and engraving known as scrimshawing. Ebony wood and abalone pearl trim form a striking contrast to accentuate the beauty of each carving.

David started carving at age six. By his late teens he was creating work for display at Mystic Seaport Maritime Gallery in Mystic, Connecticut, whose directors have declared that Warther's work "epitomizes the highest level of accomplishment in Marine Art" and have rated his carvings Museum Quality AAA.

Warther is a recipient of the Governors' Award
The highest award an artist can receive in the State of Ohio
