The Warther Carving Collection
The rigging on the ships are carved of ivory. These elegant strands of ivory measure ten thousandths of an inch in diameter and adorn the miniature scale models which are accurate in every detail. The ivory David carves is legal antique ivory that is purchased from museum and private collections here in America and which meets the strict legal requirements set forth by the U.S. Government.Carving can be traced in the Warther family to David's Great-Great-Grandfather who was an accomplished wood carver and cabinetmaker in Switzerland in the early 1800's. David's Grandfather, Ernest "Mooney" Warther, was known for his wood and ivory carvings of "The History of Steam Engines". As a fifth generation artist David is actively carving his own niche in the family tradition as he works daily on this amazing project.
